Name: Asha Hussain

Division: Financial Services

Location: Ohio

Q: In a few words, describe your role at BMW?

A: I am responsible for the Genius and iConcierge team, based in Hilliard, Ohio.  We assist and educate existing and future customers on BMW’s innovations, features and functionalities – ultimately helping customers explore the technology and functionality of our vehicles.

Q: How important do you believe mentoring and empowering women in the workplace is?

A: Gender disparity still exists in the work place. It is important to help both men and women navigate and  consciously  work to improve equality. Equality leads to a more diverse,  innovative and creative environment. There is still an incredible imbalance of women in leadership at the executive level. When women enter the workplace they should have examples to look up to and mentors that advocate for their advancement. It is important to take the time to invest in future female leaders.

Being a mentor allows you to develop skills such as listening, compassion and courage which enable you to be a better leader in your own right.

Q: How do you feel you’ve grown professionally and personally throughout your time at the Financial Services department?

A: Nobody does it on their own. I have had the privilege of being surrounded by incredibly confident mentors- women and men who have already ascended the corporate ladder. They have helped me achieve a work-life balance and helped me find my voice. I speak up so that others are empowered to do so as well.

Q: What advice would you give to women pursuing a career in your field?

A: Be resilient and keep seeking out opportunities where you can make a difference. Despite the challenges you may face, don’t doubt your unique self and continue to strive to empower others around you.  Be confident and stand up for what’s right. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and above all make sure you find your own personal voice.  The most important thing is that you fight for what you believe in and that is always worth it.

Q: What inspires you in the workplace and why?

A: My colleagues, the wonderful people who surround me. They are all unique and make me laugh each and every day.  Like I said nobody does it or makes it on their own. I am surrounded by people who build each other up, support each other’s career development and make time to teach each other.  They are a true inspiration.
